The Countryside Ranger Service has operated here since 1971, when the whole area became John Muir Country Park. Belhaven Bay forms a key area within this.

The Ranger Service has four main aims;

- to welcome people to countryside sites

- to assist and advise on countryside issues, including access

 -to provide a range of environmental interpretation and education activities

- to protect and manage the natural history interest at all sites
